ThyssenKrupp Steel has concluded green electricity supply contracts totaling 230 gigawatt hours for subsidiary companies. This measure aims at the decarbonization of steel production, which has direct impacts on the carbon footprint of structural steel, reinforcing steel, and steel beams. For planners and architects, the origin of electricity is becoming increasingly relevant in the preparation of Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), as the embodied energy of steel components is largely determined by production energy. The share of green electricity improves the environmental balance of corresponding building products in certification systems such as DGNB or LEED.
