The agreements form part of the steel producer's decarbonisation strategy as the energy-intensive sector faces mounting pressure to reduce CO₂ emissions. Steel production typically accounts for approximately 7% of global carbon emissions, with electrical energy consumption a significant factor in both primary steelmaking and processing operations. The volume secured—230 GWh—roughly equates to the annual electricity consumption of 65,000 households, underscoring the scale of industrial energy demand in steel manufacturing.
