Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB is investing SEK 3.3 billion (approximately €300 million) in a new production line for speciality steel at its Swedish facilities. The investment signals confidence in sustained demand for high-performance steel grades used in construction and engineering applications across Europe. SSAB specialises in quenched and tempered steels with yield strengths exceeding 500 MPa, materials increasingly specified for structural applications requiring reduced cross-sections and lower overall steel tonnage. The commitment comes despite ongoing pressure on European steel producers from energy costs and import competition.
