Kronospan has initiated a recall for particleboards that, according to manufacturer information, exhibit elevated formaldehyde emission values. Apparently affected are batches that exceed the limit values of emission class E1 according to DIN EN 13986. Formaldehyde is used as a binder in wood-based materials and has been subject to stricter regulations for years – the permissible limit value is 0.1 ppm (124 µg/m³) in room air. The incident raises questions about batch-related quality assurance; details on affected product types and batch numbers have not yet been published.
