Wood-based panel manufacturer Kronospan is shifting a significant portion of its transport logistics to rail. According to the company, the Malta Multi Modal concept from logistics specialist Innofreight saves approximately 2,800 truck journeys annually. The switch significantly reduces CO₂ emissions in the supply chain of particleboard, MDF and OSB panels – a relevant factor for the overall sustainability assessment of wood-based materials, whose sustainability evaluations increasingly include transport emissions. For planners focused on lifecycle analyses according to EN 15804, the origin and logistics can thus become more important.
