THERMO-SYSTEM Industrie- & Trocknungstechnik GmbH from Esslingen is positioning itself in the field of thermal sewage sludge drying. The background is the phosphorus recovery obligation that will apply from 2029 according to the Sewage Sludge Ordinance: municipal treatment plants will then have to recycle phosphorus from sewage sludge or ashes if the P₂O₅ content exceeds two percent. For equipment manufacturers, this is a growing market – in Germany alone, approximately 1.8 million tons of sewage sludge dry matter are produced annually. Whether the company will also enter phosphorus extraction processes or only supply pre-drying remains to be seen.
