The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) has revised its certification system for new construction projects, introducing stricter requirements for environmental performance documentation. The updated framework places increased weight on whole life-cycle assessment, demanding more detailed material declarations including Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and verifiable recycling content data. Designers and specifiers will need to demonstrate compliance earlier in the planning process, with enhanced documentation of embodied carbon and end-of-life recyclability. The changes affect all building typologies seeking DGNB Gold or Platinum certification and take effect for projects registered from Q2 2024 onwards.
