Berliner Hypothekenbank has received three DGNB certifications at once for its new group headquarters B-One: Platinum for building quality, Diamond for climate-positive operations, as well as separate ESG verification. The triple award is still rare in the German financial real estate landscape and is likely to increase pressure on other banks to aim not only for Platinum but also the stricter Diamond criteria when building new facilities. DGNB Diamond requires that the building compensates more CO₂ over its lifecycle than it causes – a benchmark that goes beyond EU taxonomy requirements. Whether ESG verification will establish itself as a standard for financial service providers will become clear from 2025 onwards, when the first mandatory CSRD reports are available.
