BS EN 12350-2:2000 specifies the procedure for determining the consistence of fresh concrete using the slump test. The test involves measuring the amount a fresh concrete sample slumps or sinks under its own weight when a standardized concrete-filled mold is lifted vertically.

The slump test method is sensitive to changes in consistency corresponding to slumps between 10 mm and 210 mm. The test is not suitable when the declared value of the coarsest fraction of aggregates used in the concrete (Dmax) exceeds 40 mm. Additionally, if the slump continues to change over a period of 1 minute after withdrawing the cone, the slump test is not appropriate as a measure of consistence.

The standard provides the apparatus, sample preparation, test procedure, reporting requirements, and precision for conducting the slump test according to European standards. It supersedes BS 1881-102:1983.

BS EN 12350-2:2000 is part of a series of standards for testing fresh concrete and incorporates Corrigendum No. 1. The standard exists in English, French and German versions.
