Salzgitter AG presented unexpectedly strong business figures in the first quarter of 2026 and subsequently revised its annual forecast upward. The steel manufacturer, whose products are used for reinforcing steel, structural profiles and facade elements in construction, could thus signal a trend reversal in the European steel industry, which has been suffering from overcapacity and price pressure for months. For planners and construction companies, stabilized steel production could lead in the medium term to more reliable supply chains and calculable prices for structural steel according to DIN EN 10025. However, the concrete development of structural steel prices remains dependent on further demand developments in building construction.
